2013 FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX Qualifying 2 and 3

Qualifying 2

After all the chaotic first wet session yesterday at Albert Park, all the remaining 17 drivers starts their Sunday morning with intermediates tyres. The track condition may or may not good enough for running slicks but McLaren was the first team to let their drivers to try on the super soft dry tyres. Unfortunately faster time by other drivers on inters kept being set and both Button and Perez could not kept the temperature up in their tyres in the still damp third sector of the track. Button then put back in a set of inters to go for the final run and made it 4th fastest in Q2. Perez was told by his engineer by radio to keep putting temperature in to his second set of super soft which he could not manage to do it and settle for the 15th grid slot joining Nico Hulkenberg, both Toro Rossos and Bottas in the knockout zone.

Qualifying 3

First part of Q3 is about clearing water out of the third sector and some driver stayed in the garage for others to do the job. Button was the first one out to try with super soft as track condition improves. Eventually all drivers remains were on super soft and kept pushing hard for their final two flying laps.

Vettel managed to get his first pole on the season by beating his local hero Webber by four-tenth of a second which means front row for Red Bull. Lewis also had a good run on his final flying lap by running third, followed by two Ferraris Massa and Alonso. After setting fastest time on inters on both Q1 and Q2, Nico settled on sixth, followed by both Lotus. Great job by Paul with his time beating his fellow Brit Jenson for the last two spots.

2013 FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX Qualifying

Qualifying 1

It has been a rainy day at Albert Park which means a wet day for the first qualifying session of the 2013 Formula One season. Heavy rain causes multiple delays to the qualifying session, which the condition only good enough for Q1 to proceed for the day.

All teams start with full wet tyres which means DRS was unavailable. Button was the first to switch to intermediate tyres and posted a significantly faster time than others who still on full wet. Nico Rosberg went fastest on intermediate towards the checkered flag. A few drivers went off road in these changing conditions. Maldonado and Gutierrez out as well as both Marussia and Caterham. Bottas of Williams is the only rookie who survived in Q1.

Due to worsened condition, Q2 and Q3 are being postponed to Sunday 11AM local time.

2013 FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX Practice 1/2

Practice 1

2013 season Formula 1 Australian GP Practice 1 is finished, Red Bull is showing good pace right from the start with Vettel on top of the time sheet, Ferrari is also quick around the Albert Park circuit this morning with Massa and Alonso posting second and third fastest time. Solid start for Mercedes with Hamilton the forth fastest man with his debut with the team and the new W04. Disappointing start for McLaren with Button and Perez P9 and P11 respectively. Practice 2 at 1:30PM after the lunch break, stay tuned!

Practice 2

So here we concludes the Friday practice of the Australian GP with Vettel and Webber showing strong pace for the Red Bull boys on the afternoon session today, Rosberg comes third before coming to a stop few mins before end of the session due to a gearbox problem. Raikkonen and Grosjean of Lotus post the 4th and 5th fastest time followed by Alonso.

Hamilton seems to have a good pace to challenge Vettel but a problem with the front part of the floor of the car, which had caused him to lose grip and go off by the end of the session with 7th fastest time. McLaren seem to be struggling with their new MP4-28 which confirmed by their 11th and 13th fastest time by Button and Perez. Interesting development from the back of the field which Marussia looks faster than their rival Catarham and Bianchi only three-tenth slower than Bottas from Williams.
